YEAR 9 – YEAR 11
In Year 9 students study English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, IT, Food and Nutrition, Design Technology, Art and PE. Each week Year 9s also have lessons, taught by senior staff, in debating, presentation skills, conservation and critical thinking. If it is appropriate they will study both French and Spanish. They all play sport three times a week – on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Saturdays they have LEX sessions, more details of which can be found here.
In March – April of Year 9 students choose their GCSE Options. Everyone takes English Language, Maths and Science. Most also take English Literature and some also take Further Mathematics.
Students then choose up to 4 additional optional subjects, leading to between 6 and 11 GCSEs.
The optional subjects are: Art and Design, Computer Science, Creative iMedia, Design and Technology, Food Preparation and Nutrition, French, Spanish, Geography, History, Music, PE.
Students who have some learning support usually have their support lessons in place of one or sometimes two optional subjects. This is discussed in detail with parents and pupils.
Science: more able scientists take three separate sciences. Students who find Science less interesting or useful have lessons in all three sciences and take the combined science award.
International students can be prepared for a globally recognised IGCSE in English as a Second Language. Some international students also take a GCSE in their own language if it is offered by the exam board. We have recently had students take a qualification in German, French, Italian, Greek, Mandarin, Japanese and Turkish.
